About BarCamp Saskatoon

The idea of BarCamp came from Foo Camp where a bunch of the best techie minds in the world got together to talk about new technologies, and to create opportunities for cross-fertilization between people and technologies.

Since only the top minds from O’Reilly, Google, Yahoo, Intel, Apple, etc. were invited to attend, two people in California decided to make a Camp for the rest of us. Now, there are BarCamps somewhere in the world almost every day.

The goal of BarCamp Saskatoon, is to bring together, for an afternoon, people who love technology to talk and to learn. Each person who attends has to be willing to talk about something or volunteer (registration, set-up, teardown, etc.). There will be a number of sessions which will be picked by the attendees at the start of the day. For example, if lots of people want to hear about the future of Skype, then that will be on the agenda. If people do not want to hear about the effect use of the “blink” tag, it will not be on the agenda.

Space is limited and people are already signing up to present, organize, sponsor and volunteer. Visit the BarCamp Saskatoon Wiki for all of the details. You can update that page and add your name.

BarCamp Saskatoon is free, but Campers are asked to make a small donation to offset expenses (probably $5-$10). Each attendee will get a free BarCamp Saskatoon t-shirt. The organizing committee is currently looking for sponsors.

To get involved, all you have to do is go to the BarCamp Saskatoon Wiki. Please spread the word (by sending some emails, talking to friends, putting up a poster, etc); one of the most important things you can do is get your friends and colleagues interested.
